A nurse was left in critical condition after her partner tied her to a bed and injected her with “controlled drugs” during an attempted “exorcism”, a court heard.

Kelly Wilson suffered organ failure after Dr Hossam Metwally tried to rid her body of “evil spirits”, magistrates in Grimsby, Lincolnshire were told.

The 31-year-old nurse had formerly worked for the same NHS trust as her partner, a British national, qualified in medicine in Egypt before coming to the UK.

The 58-year-old who worked as a pain clinic specialist and an anaesthetist at Princess Diana Hospital in Grimsby, Scunthorpe General Hospital and local clinics, also ran a business with Ms Wilson from their home in Grimsby.

Lincs Pain Clinic advertises as managing acute pain, chronic pain and sports injuries.

Dr Metwally is the director and Ms Wilson is listed as a co-director and the company secretary.

She was taken to Grimsby Hospital intensive care where safeguarding staff alerted Humberside Police the following day.

Officers carried out a three-day forensic operation in which bags of belongings and other material were recovered by crime scene investigators.

Police also placed an overnight guard at the home until the search was called off on Sunday.
