The Miami Dolphins’ offseason roster makeover continued on Thursday with the release of a former first-round pick.

The Dolphins waived defensive end Taco Charlton, ending his short stint with the team after joining Miami last September.

Charlton played in 10 games with five starts for the Dolphins, totaling 21 tackles (14 solo), and leading Miami with five sacks.

But he eventually fell out of favor with the Dolphins coaching staff, ending the season on the inactive list instead of playing in the final four games of last season.

During the offseason, the Dolphins have signed three edge rushers in free agency: Kyle Van Noy, Shaq Lawson and Emmanuel Ogbah.

They also added three more defensive linemen in the 2020 NFL draft in second-round defensive tackle Raekwon Davis, fifth-round defensive lineman Jason Strowbridge (Deerfield Beach High) and sixth-round defensive end Curtis Weaver.

Those six will join defensive tackles Christian Wilkins and Davon Godchaux, outside linebackers Vince Biegel and Andrew Van Ginkel, and former first-round defensive ends Charles Harris to revive one of Miami’s weakest units last season.

With Miami’s new additions, Charlton became expendable.

In his career, Charlton has played in 37 contests with 12 starts, totaling 67 tackles (42 solo), nine sacks, two passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Charlton was a first-round pick (No. 28) by Dallas in the 2017 NFL draft.
