Fantasy football 2023: New Orleans Saints preview

Tribune Content Agency

Knowledge is power and the greatest asset you can acquire in order to compete for a fantasy football championship.

Here’s your 2023 preview of the New Orleans Saints, the 23rd of 32 team profiles during draft season:

— 2023 Fantasy MVP: Chris Olave, WR

Olave (ADP: 25) finished his rookie season as the overall WR23 in standard formats (WR25 in PPR). He accomplished this despite a difficult situation at quarterback, a lack of complementary weapons to draw attention and missing two games himself.

— 2023 Fantasy Sleeper: Saints D/ST

The Saints (ADP: 179) were the 16th best scoring defense in fantasy in 2022 after finishing in the top-10 three straight seasons. The drop-off was mostly due to a poor offense putting them in bad situations and several injuries to the secondary. They’re healthier and have a very favorable schedule to begin 2023. They face several lackluster or unproven quarterbacks, including Ryan Tannehill, Baker Mayfield, Jordan Love, Mac Jones and rookies Bryce Young, CJ Stroud and Anthony Richardson.

— 2023 Fantasy Bust: Alvin Kamara, RB

Drafting Kamara (ADP: 62) means using a seventh-round pick on a player who will miss the first three games of the season due to suspension, which means he can’t be stashed on the IR. The All-Pro tailback has shown signs of regression the last two season. After scoring 58 touchdowns in his first four seasons, he’s only scored 13 since 2021. Also, New Orleans signed Jamaal Williams (ADP: 95) on top of drafting a running back in the third round in April.

— 2023 Fantasy Rookie to Watch: Kendre Miller, RB

Miller (ADP: 161) produced at least one explosive play (20-plus yards) in 12 of 14 games in 2022 for TCU, but he’s a work in progress as a receiver and blocker. He’s currently dealing with a hamstring issue, but I anticipate him having value at some point this season.
