NYDN: Canadians petition to deny Harry and Meghan cash

World News

Some 80,000 signatures inked a digital petition calling on the Canadian government to ensure Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do not dip into taxpayer funds, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, which delivered the entreaty to the prime minister’s office in Ottawa on Tuesday.

Many expect the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to make the Great White North their primary home after the dust settles from their abrupt departure from the British Royal Family. Prince Harry, 35, and Markle, 38, have settled down on Vancouver Island for the short-term with their baby Archie.

Almost three-quarters of Canadians are against the government footing the bill for the pair, according to the Angus Reid Institute, a Vancouver-based pollster.
