ATLANTA — The funeral for Rayshard Brooks will be held Tuesday at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church. Brooks, 27, died June 12 after being shot by an officer in a Wendy’s parking lot.

“Ebenezer is a parish for all people, a sanctuary for those who suffer,” Rev. Raphael G. Warnock, senior pastor of Ebenezer, said in an emailed statement. “Rayshard was not a member of our church but he, and his loved ones, are a part of our family. We seek to embrace them, comfort them and walk beside them in the days ahead.”

A public viewing will be held Monday at the church. The Tuesday funeral, planned for 1 p.m., will be private and seating will be by invitation only. The service will be streamed live on the church’s website, www.ebenezeratl.org.

Brooks’ death sparked protests in Atlanta and around the country. On Wednesday, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced criminal charges for the two officers accused in the shooting.

Media mogul Tyler Perry previously announced he would pay for the costs of the service, an attorney for the Brooks family said. Warnock will deliver the eulogy.

Brooks, survived by his wife and children, will be buried in Atlanta.
