‘TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS’

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and language.

What it’s about: Set in 1994, two kids from Brooklyn team up with the Autobots and the Maximals to stop Unicron from destroying the planet.

The kid attractor factor: The big crashy spectacle and talking cars.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Earth is worth fighting for, and Autobots need love too.

Violence: Giant robots fight each other, endlessly. Lots of explosions and crashes and various other destruction and peril.

Language: Some strong language.

Sex: None

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: This is a bit violent and intense for kids. OK for teens.

What it’s about: Follows an aspiring gallerist as he encounters the eccentric Salvador Dalí and his wife Gala in the waning days of their fame in the 1970s.

The kid attractor factor: Not much — this is an adult drama

Good lessons/bad lessons: Even what you don’t understand has its own internal logic.

Violence: A few domestic spats.

Language: Swearing throughout.

Sex: Graphic nudity and sex scenes.

Drugs: On-screen cocaine use.

Parents’ advisory: This is a movie for adults — too many mature themes for kids. OK for teens.
